Firecrackers? In Massachusetts? CALL THE BOMB SQUAD!

Cohasset Fireworks

“Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do…”

No, really—call the bomb squad:

COHASSET, Mass. (WHDH)–On Tuesday the state police bomb squad was called to haul off and destroy “several hundred pounds worth of fireworks” that police seized in Cohasset, according to Det. Lt. Gregory Lennon.

Homeowner Peter Roy planned to set the fireworks off following his son’s wedding reception on the property. Cohasset police said an officer working a detail at the wedding caught wind of Roy’s plan to light off fireworks at 11 p.m. Saturday…

Roy told 7News that the harbormaster was well aware of the planned display and was on standby supervising as his employees set up the fireworks on a breakwater at the entrance to the harbor.

Oh, no—fireworks…on the WATER! He could have set the entire harbor on fire!

You know what’s really pathetic. It’s not that they called the state bomb squad for the same fireworks my kids were lighting last week in South Carolina (OK, that IS pathetic).

It’s the photo above, posted by the Cohasset Police, showing off their haul of “dangerous explosives.”

Wow. You stopped a wedding fireworks display. Your training officers from the Academy must be so proud.

Natural Truth of the Day

For several months now, whenever the topic of enrollment in the Affordable Care Act came up, I've been saying that it was too soon to tell its ultimate effects. We don't know how many people have paid for their new insurance policies, or how many of those who bought policies were previously uninsured. For that, I said, we will have to wait for Census Bureau data, which offer the best assessment of the insurance status of the whole population... I stand corrected: These data won't be available at all. Ever.-- Megan McArdle, Bloomberg View.
