From Gomez’s announcement and first press appearance today:
“Sure, I’m running as a Republican, but I’m a new kind of Republican,” he said in his speech. “Obviously as a Republican I hold some conservative views . but I’m an independent thinker, and I have no interest in going to Washington to engage in partisan trench warfare.”
There’s a word for the “new kind of Republican” Gomez represents. That word is “Democrat.”
His first day on the campaign trail and he’s already running against the Republican Party. If MA GOP voters make Gomez the nominee, he’ll do it even more.
And why wouldn’t he? Gomez supported Obama in 2008, he gave money to uber-liberals like Alan Khazei and he was donating money to Democratic candidates just a few months ago.
Any time a Republican candidate says he’s a “new kind of Republican” and an “independent thinking,” he’s really telling you he’s going to spend his time bashing the GOP.
