“You will shut up! You will obey!”
But this may be the worst development yet:
SCITUATE — Residents upset by the tactics used by police during last week’s July 3 celebration on Humarock Beach were turned away by selectmen Tuesday night.
Three Scituate residents approached the board during its regular meeting hoping to discuss the holiday arrests. Chairman Joseph Norton interrupted them to say the town’s attorney had advised them not to hear any discussion on the subject until the cases have been resolved in court.
When the residents persisted, Norton slammed his gavel, requested a police officer’s presence at town hall and eventually called for a brief recess, which put an abrupt end to the meeting’s public-comment period.
Yeah, who needs to hear comments from you publics out there? You’ll shut up and do as you’re told! So say your elected officials!
And if the (ahem) “citizens” of Scituate let their elected officials treat them this way—they deserve everything they get.
