New Yorkers will no longer be required to take an eye test to renew their driver's licenses under a rule change that [took] effect on Wednesday.
State Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Barbara Fiala said her agency will allow customers to "self-certify" that they meet the driving vision requirement.
New York joins six other states, including Connecticut and Pennsylvania, which do not mandate vision tests when renewing licenses.
I love that—“self cerify.” We’re going to ask the same 80-year-old driver who thinks he’s just fine even though he keeps “parking” in the foyer of his doctor’s office to let us know if he thinks his vision is OK, too. Brilliant.
So when you see the lady clutching the steering wheel of the Buick in front of you, remember—not only has she not been road tested since the Truman administration, she hasn’t had an eye test since then, either.
And once again, the question arises: How long until Massachusetts adopts this policy, too?

"The truth is something [Warren] probably prefers not to confront. Harvard doesn’t come calling just because you’re a smart lawyer and a terrific teacher — not with Warren’s modest, Oklahoma upbringing and non-Ivy League education. She is not your typical Harvard professor. At a certain point, when the law school was under pressure to promote diversity, she represented a three-fer: a great lawyer with a national profile, a woman, and a minority, at least by virtue of family lore.
