Uncle Omar’s Excellent Adventure

A bogus Social Security number.

A bogus MA driver’s license.

Government-subsidized health care.

And a job at a liquor store.

President Obama’s drunk Uncle Omar isn’t just living in Massachusetts—he’s living it up! It sure is a hell of a lot better than the life he would have as a legal resident back home in Kenya.

The question is, how was Omar able to pull it off?  Answer: Massachusetts politicians:

In President Obama's 1995 memoir "Dreams from My Father" he writes that he learned in 1988 through family members in Kenya that his Uncle Omar came to the United States 25 years prior. A number of commentators are mentioning that President Obama's uncle may have benefited from a policy that goes back to the days of former Massachusetts Democratic Governor Michael Dukakis, when illegal immigrants were assigned identification numbers that looked similar to social security numbers.

The author above, Kerry Picket of the Washington Times, provides this from an AP story at the time:

Massachusetts welfare workers assigned hundreds of dummy Social Security numbers to illegal immigrants to enable them to receive millions of dollars in state benefits.Federal officials said Wednesday, there's nothing illegal about it. But Gov. Michael Dukakis says it's got to stop because it goes against his new efforts to crack down on aid to illegal aliens, which he says the state can no longer afford.The practice started after Dukakis issued a 1985 executive order barring state agencies from asking people applying for state services about theircitizenship status.But citizens or not, the computerized welfare records required a case identification number for each person, and that had to be a nine-digit number since for most people the ID is the same as their Social Security number.Welfare spokeswoman Michal Regunberg said the department issued its own control numbers, which started with a three-digit prefix not used by the Social Security Administration.

As a result, this illegal immigrant has a driver’s license and, according to his boss, he even got a tax refund check last year from his illegal tax return!

Here’s my question: Why is ICE deporting Obama now? Sure he’s here illegally and was driving drunk, but so what?  As Governor Patrick and Mayor Menino have both explicitly stated, illegal immigrants should NOT be deported for such minor crimes.  Nicolas Guaman had done far worse, and Gov. Patrick says today that not deporting him before he killed Matthew Denice was still the right thing to do.

So why are they picking on Uncle O?

Actually this is a rhetorical question. Nobody believes for a second that this illegal Obama is going to be deported any more than the previous one.  In Massachusetts, politics always triumphs the law.
